Affiliate Summit East 2009 recap

Affiliate Summit East 2009

Affiliate Summit East 2009

After finishing my “between Affiliate Summits” traveling in South America, I arrived to NYC. I know that New York has a lot of activities to offer, but I came here with one intention – todo business. Besides, it’s my 4th time in NYC so I pretty much covered all the touristic activities here & I’m really tired of partying as I did it for 6 months.

So far on the previous conventions I attended, I was running from party to party, just that I’ll be able to catch as much free Alcohol as I can. IMHO it’s stupid, because I don’t fly overseas just to get drunk. I can do it at home, with my childhood friends. So this Affiliate Summit I just made a decision that this whole party thing is not for me. You can’t even network there, because it’s so loud. That’s why skipped Copeac’s VIP Bus party on the first day, that’s why I spent only 30 mins on Shareasale’s party and that’s why I left after 15 minutes in the other Parties.

However, I didn’t  miss all the action. There was actually several good events, I won’t call them parties as they were more Cocktails that you actually can network there and hear what the other person has to say. It was great pleasure to attend on SybariteElite’s party on London’s top floor suit. I know I said party, that’s how they called it, but it was actually a cocktail with lots of great Affiliates. Another great event was ClickBank’s VIP cocktail for their top affiliates and advertisers. I made some great connections there, and some future partnerships.

As always, I had the platinum pass for this event, but didn’t have time or the will to go to any sessions. Usually the sessions in this type of events are pretty boring, and more for newbies, so I just skip them and try to maximize my networking time.

Overall, I think it was my best Affiliate Summit so far, as I concentrated in meeting new people and doing biz, rather than partying and drinking alcohol. I was happy once again to meet Wes Mahler, Steven, Alex, Wes from the 202 crew and lots of other great people.

After not working seriously for long time, it’s a great time to finish all my travels and start working. I really missed gaming Google and dominating some new verticals. But first, I need to follow-up all the great people I met.

I really wanted to go to AdTech in London, but unfortuantely I already scheduled my Scotland cycling trip for end of September. However, I’m still considering expanding my stay in GB and going to A4U expo in London. Hopefully it’ll be as good as this Affiliate Summit was for me.

A Knight’s Tale

Here I am sitting on my Continental flight from Lima (Peru) to New York, trying to make my way to Affiliate Summit East 2009 that takes place in the big city. After 6 months of exploring the whole continent of South America and having the greatest adventures of my life, it feels good to be back in business. I finally understood why I love so much being an Affiliate or how they say it in Latin America, Afiliado.

In some way it’s even ironic, that everything started in Las Vegas, on Affiliate Summit West 2009, and now it ends, here on ASE New York, with this new blog.

ASW in Vegas was a great event, I was happy to meet once again good friends and amazing business colleagues. I was so enthusiastic to announce all my affiliate friends that I’m not flying back home to my country. Not that I don’t love my country, it was something else. Everybody was shocked when I said them that I’m going to spend the next 6 months traveling in 3rd world countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile & Peru (After visiting there, I can tell you, they’re not!). Suddenly the questions started to arise:

  • How will you have Internet connection there?
  • Won’t you do Affiliate Marketing while traveling?
  • How will you find time working while traveling?

In matter of fact, a good friend of mine and one of the biggest affiliates that I know asked me “Aren’t you afraid losing all your commissions while traveling?”, a fact that is quite possible considering the fact that I drive my traffic using PPC Advertising.

But I didn’t care!

Two years ago, when I just started my Affiliate Marketing journey, I started aiming for this moment. Just to have the freedom of laying on a paradise beach in Brazil and eat Acai all day long (I’m actually one of the minority affiliates who actually ate real Acai). I started just because I wanted to have the freedom of hiking on mountains, seeing world wonders & cycling without thinking about my bank account.

And here I am 6 months down the road. I’ve hiked mountains, I’ve seen world wonders, I ate Acai all day long and I’m still pumping commissions. It appears that even when you’re in a risky business such as PPC Advertising you can think long term.

I’m not new to Affiliate blogging, I actually own the biggest Affiliate Marketing blog in my country. I documented my whole Affiliate Marketing journey there. You know the “From Zero to Hero” thing… I’m glad that it worked and on the way up I inspired a lot of people.

When I’m going to Affiliate Marketing  & SEM conventions in United States & Europe, people always tell me: “I wish I could read your insights in English”, “Why don’t you blog in English?”, etc… The moment has come, and here I am launching my English blog with a little twist.

In my country, I blog only about Affiliate Marketing, PPC, SEO and the other SEM related stuff. But you know how it works. Sometimes you have a need to express yourself and tell great stories such as how I met this American girl in El Calafate (Argentina) who actually signed up for the Acai rebill (and liked it), about this new NLP technique that I just learned or just about how I’m happy that my favorite Football team (Soccer for Americans) just won this important match. Yeah, you got the point, this blog is going to be a personal blog, but I guess that Internet Marketing takes a big slice of my life, so the majority of the posts will be on that topic.

I know that for some people my personal traveling stories might be irrelevant, but this is my unique added value for the Affiliate Marketing industry. Besides the tactics & the techniques that I’ll share, I want this blog to share my point of view of taking life easy, having fun and not worrying much about the money. That’s the only way I can deliver my message as I see it now, but who knows? Maybe I’ll grow up…

It’ll be my honor if you’ll keep reading this blog and subscribe to RSS.
